Pay close attention. Here’s how Bush Republicans play the spin game.
According to a piece on HuffPost, taken from The Hill, Congressman Christopher Shays (R-Conn) pitched a fit and tried to brow-beat a cop. It didn’t work out the way he intended.
Apparently some constituents of Shays had come for an audience with him. The cop refused to let them enter through a door with restricted access. It was raining. Allegedly Shays got exercised because his people were out in the rain. So he charged down to take on the offending cop, screamed obscenities at him, fingered the cop’s ID badge and stormed off in a snit when the cop wouldn't budge. Click for more.
Once the episode made the light of day, Shays scrambled to apologize, saying he takes full responsibility. Yuppers. But here’s the truly beautiful part.
“When I return to Washington on Monday, I hope to have the opportunity to meet with the officer and apologize to him in person,” he said in the statement. “I take full responsibility for this incident and want to ensure it does not reflect negatively on the officer in any way.”
Shays also expressed his admiration and respect for the Capitol Police and the work they do to protect lawmakers and visitors. He regretted that his actions did not reflect these thoughts.
The officer and the Capitol Police could not be reached for comment.
Shays fawns over the Capitol Police. They are the salt of the earth, doing Very Important Work. And most of all, he wants to ensure that the incident does not reflect negatively on the officer in any way. Hello? The arrogance is stunning, isn’t it? The cop was doing the job he was hired to do. I realize that “protect and defend” is not a concept easily grasped by Bush Republicans. Shays tried to make himself the hero by throwing his weight around. The cop wouldn’t budge. Ergo, the cop refused to be intimidated by this in-his-face bully boy.
Even in his “apology,” Shays managed to cast a wee bit of doubt about the cop’s actions.
Just thought you’d want an up-close-and-personal look at how Bush Republicans do things. “Go Cheney yourself!”
